What Is The Difference Between Sharara and Gharara

Do you know what the difference between sharara and gharara is? Well, till today I thought I knew. I’ve never heard of sharara, but I grew up with the gharara, since we are Indian and wear Indian clothing occasionally. I am slightly confused though. I will be sharing my confusion with you in a moment. I am sure you are all very use to sharara designs and I have compiled only sharara designs in the article here. Pakistani girls wear the sharara and I mostly saw designs for bridal wear. If you too don’t know the difference between the two, then let’s look at it together, below.

Difference Between Sharara and Gharara

I am sure this can’t be corrector maybe we have a different understanding of it, but here is the difference according to Google. Unfortunately, I only have first hand experience with the gharara and not sharara. As I said before, we wear Indian clothing for occasional wear and grew up wearing them for Eid and weddings.

A  Gharara is a traditional Lucknowi garment, traditionally worn by Muslim women. It consists of a kurti (a short, mid-thigh length tunic), a dupatta (veil), and most importantly, a pair of wide-legged pants, ruched at the knee so they flare out dramatically.
A Sharara is also a pair of wide-legged pants, and not ruched at the knee, traditionally worn by Indian Pakistani women.

There you have it ladies, I hope that cleared up any confusion. But this has not cleared up my confusion. We grew up calling a top and skirt a gharara. I had no idea it was a pants. But everyone calls that a gharara, so I’m not sure who is at fault? Please save me from this confusion by commenting in the box below and confirming whether a gharara indeed has a top and skirt as well. Cos it is impossible for me and everyone around me to be calling an outfit by its incorrect name for so many years.

Amazing Sharara and Gharara Designs

The difference between the two designs are evident here. I must say I prefer the gharara which is ruched at the knee since it is more fitted and then flares out. I think the sharara looks more like a skirt since it is very wide and it can make you appear to be fatter. We will look at designs below if you would like to see what I mean and then you can from your own opinion by commenting in the box below.
