Muslim female athletes will be very welcoming to the launch of Nike hijab. I was just informed about the launch a few minutes ago and was kind of surprised. Not at the achievement, but at the fact that it took so long to become available to Muslim female athletes. I have seen Muslim female athletes part-take in sports with hijab, but this time there is one which was specifically designed for athletes, taking into account what a female athlete in hijab entails. We will go over the details below, so please join me on this epic discovery.
The Pro Hijab Being Launched By Nike
Many non-Muslims might think, “what is the big deal?” As Muslim female athletes, the headscarf is not provided as part of the uniform in some instances and not given importance. With the launch of Nike’s pro-hijab, they are showing acceptance of the Muslim female headdress and making allowance for it in sport. I think this is a major step in creating diversity and increasing awareness about Islam in a positive manner. Need I remind you that Nike is an American company!
The Nike Hijab Gets Tested By Athletes
This hijab was a year in the making and Nike consulted with Muslim women athletes from around the world, including Middle Eastern runners and cyclists, in designing the hijab. The pull-on hijab is made of light, stretchy fabric that includes tiny holes to be breathable which is much needed for athletes, since they do perspire a lot. It also has an elongated back so it will not come untucked which is needed for neck coverage. It will be available in three colours: black, grey and obsidian and goes on sale in 2018.
